Who Uses Polygraph

What is Polygraph?

It is important to understand what a polygraph examination entails.

A polygraph instrument will collect physiological data from at least three systems in the human body. Respiration, sweat gland and cardiovascular activity are simultaneously recorded during the examination. A typical polygraph examination will include three phases:

Pre-test - In the pre-test, the polygraph examiner will complete required paperwork and talk with the examinee about the test. During this period, the examiner will discuss the questions to be asked and familiarize the examinee with the testing procedure.

In-test - The in-test phase is where the data is collected and recorded on charst for subsequent evaluation. The examiner will analyze the data and render an opinion as to the truthfulness of the person taking the test.

Post-test - During the post-test phase the examinee, when appropriate, will be given an opportunity to explain physiological responses in relation to one or more questions asked during the test.

Does Polygraph Analyze The Voice for Stress?

It is important to note that a polygraph does not include the analysis of physiology associated with the voice. Instruments that claim to record voice stress are not polygraphs and have not been shown to have scientific support.

Who Uses Polygraph?

Businesses
Given the current economic and business climate, business entities involved in providing security services such as armored car, alarm, and guards, pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors find it necessary distinguish themselves in the market. Finding the right people to represent your reputation and interests can become a time consuming and convoluted process. Human Resources (HR) Departments have long recognized the value of employing the polygraph and frequently rely on its usefulness for hiring the best candidate for their company. Successful businesses that protect, transfer, manufacture, distribute, or provide personnel for these purposes are determined to acquire the best candidates for representing their firm and its reputation. Pre-employment exams allow businesses to tailor the hiring selection process to suit their immediate needs. We are highly qualified to assist you in these endeavors. If you are responsible for retaining qualified personnel tasked with handling highly sensitive product or data call and speak with us about our pre-employment screening exams.

Aside from pre-employment examinations, businesses often use our services for examinations governed by the Employment Polygraph Protection Act or EPPA. Our company provides these exams for those businesses who find themselves in the unfortunate position of needing this service. We strongly recommend that all companies research the criteria and guidelines set forth by Section 801.12 of EPPA.

Law Enforcement & Government
Polygraph is heavily relied upon by Law Enforcement and Government agencies for pre-employment selection of personnel and criminal investigations. Background investigations can reveal information that has been previously verified but occasionally there are indiscretions and activities that go unnoticed because they were previously undiscovered and therefore no validated record exists. Pre-employment screening and criminal examinations assist in confirming known facts and uncovering critical information previously unavailable.

Attorneys
Attorneys utilize our services in a similar manner to that of businesses and law enforcement. Law Firms find themselves expending valuable resources in efforts to defend their clients. Clients aren’t always completely forthcoming with their attorneys and subsequently can hinder their own defense. Attorneys are able to save valuable time and resources by utilizing our polygraph services. By freeing these resources and obtaining the necessary information sought, an attorney is better prepared to serve their client and facilitate the best course for their case strategy.

Treatment Centers
Panhandle Polygraph Associates (PPA) understands the complexities and unique variables required to conduct Pre and Post Conviction Sex Offender Testing (PCSOT). In recent years Treatment Centers, Probation and Parole Offices and Polygraph Examiners have developed and deployed excellent models for examining offenders. Recognizing the importance for maintenance and monitoring, PPA will welcome an opportunity to work with your organization to adopt a useful model to augment your efforts in the maintenance and monitoring phases of treatment.

Private Individuals - Relationship Concerns
As a parent or spouse we never want to find ourselves in need of polygraph services. Should you find yourself in these circumstances we are prepared to help. Occasionally an individual or family will use our services in the same way as businesses and law enforcement. Often times our clients are seeking assurances when they simply no longer can determine what is true.

How Much Will Testing Cost?

The cost of a polygraph test is determined by testing situation. See our Fees & Scheduling Page for more details.

Will a Polygraph Test Help My Situation?

Not all situations are conducive to a polygraph. It is important to discuss the issue at hand and discern whether or not it will be helpful for you. Unlike what is frequently seen on TV, the polygraph is a serious undertaking and should not be utilized for frivolous situations. Our examiners will gladly speak with you and advise you on the best course of action for your specific circumstances. We are well acquainted with professionals who practice many disciplines and are happy to make recommendations should our services not suit your situation.
